Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) is a condition that can cause immense pain in the muscles controlling the jaws as well as the jaw itself. If you suffer from this condition, you can attest that sleeping time can quickly become a nightmare. Typically, most people exert some pressure on their jaw area as they sleep. Those with TMJ end up in excruciating pain as a result of this pressure on the jaw.

Fortunately, due to the huge number of people with TMJ, numerous companies have developed products to alleviate the problems that arise from the condition. These sleeping aids help adjust a person’s sleeping position so that their jaws are under far less pressure than they usually would. One of these products is the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow, easily noticeable by its unique-looking surface.

Could the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow be the TMJ solution you have been looking for, or is it just another marketing fad? Find out more about it from this detailed review.

Overview

The Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow is designed to bring users relief from TMJ by correcting poorly aligned jaw joints and relieving pressure. The pillow is supposed to cause significant relief from migraines, headaches, neck pains, and shoulder pains associated with TMJ. When used in the right way, the pillow should let you enjoy a good night’s sleep without the unsettling effects of TMJ.

What is the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow Made of?

The base is made out of sturdy plastic to help keep the pillow steady during use. On the surface of the pillow is a soft foam coating that is meant to enhance comfort levels.

Our Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow review

We recently purchased the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow for my girlfriend’s persistent TMJ problem. After several weeks of use, we can comfortably comment on the product’s upsides and downsides. However, we know that other people might have varied experiences with the product. The opinions, views, and scores we will give in this review are purely based on our experience using the pillow. We will focus our review on four major customer-related aspects of the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow; comfort, support, pain relief, and value for money.

Comfort (7.8/10)

After using the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow for quite a while, comfort is one of the lowest-scoring aspects of the product. This is attributable to various issues related to the manufacture of the product. While the pillow feels as solid as it should, the material on its outer surface is not as soft as it should. While we did not expect a conventional pillow’s softness, we feel like the Accutrig is way too uncomfortable to lay on.

My wife uses the pillow a few times a day, with each session lasting a maximum of 15 minutes. We quickly learned that this is in no way a continued-use product from the soreness that would result from periods of prolonged use. Additionally, it took my wife several days of use to get accustomed to the feel of having a TMJ pillow under her. The relatively low comfort score was also brought about by the pillow’s lack of any adjustment. The one-size-fits-all concept does not seem to work very well in this case.

Pain Relief (7.2/10)

Besides the overall discomfort, pain relief is another aspect in which the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow scores quite poorly. When we first purchased the pillow, we were overly skeptical about its ability to alleviate TMJ-related problems. However, after trying other non-similar products to no success, we decided to give the pillow a try.

My girlfriend uses the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow while lying on her back with her palms up, arms and legs apart. For the 15-minute session, the TMJ-related pains reduce. However, using the product any longer will not eliminate the pain but instead make it worse. We recently felt that to get better results. We would need to try a different product. The overall low pain relief score is made worse by the unpleasant material on the pillow’s surface.

Support (8.6/10)

The sturdy material forming the bulk of the pillow ensures that a user gets excellent support from the product. Our biggest issue with the product involves the logo placement. We were a bit confused the first time we used the device. For starters, the logo’s upright position is in the pillow’s inverted position. While this might not be an issue for many people, we instantly assumed that the best support would be in the upright position (that we thought followed the logo’s upright position).

After several sessions, it becomes easy to figure out a position that gives you optimum support. We also feel like the overall support might have been better if the pillow’s surface’s soft material was of better quality.

Value for Money (8.4/10)

When my wife first spotted the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow online, we thought, ‘let us purchase that. It’s so cheap, so, why not?’ Price was, therefore, a significant factor in our purchase decision. For what the pillow costs, it’s hard to fault its overall performance. There are better TMJ pillows that are more comfortable and provide better pain relief, but the bottom line is that they cost much more.

If the manufacturer could improve the feel of the materials and adjustability, this would give you a phenomenal bang for your buck. With attributes such as portability and acceptable durability, the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow still has good value for money.

Final Verdict 8.0

For us, the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow is a mixed bag. The value for money and support attributes work in its favor. However, the product has less than stellar scores when it comes to comfort and pain relief. We feel that in the end, purchasing this much depends on which of the four factors one considers most important.

After using the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow for several weeks and evaluating its pros and cons, we gave it an overall score of 8.0/10. It is by no means among the best TMJ pillows out there, but then again, neither is it among the worst.

[FAQ’s] Consumer Questions & Answers

Which way should I place the pillow? The pictures on the packaging seem a bit confusing to me.
The pillow can be set either way. Feel free to try both options and see what works best for you.

Is this pillow something that I should use throughout the night?
No, it would be best if you only used this for sessions lasting 15 minutes tops. You can have several of these sessions per day or night, depending on the extent of your TMJ.

Does this product use batteries?
No, the Accutrig TMJ Relief Pillow does not have any batteries. It is made of plastic and memory foam.

How will this help solve my TMJ?
The pillow functions by providing traction to your neck and jaw area. This then helps align your facial muscles connected to the neck (the TMJ area).

How many times should I use the pillow each day?
You can use this pillow several times per day. The exact number of sessions will depend on your TMJ condition and the levels of pain.
